From ‘G’ to ‘I’(ce)  a primer on clinical management of GHB and methamphetamine use in Australia

23 July 2020 7pm — 8pm

Online (zoom)
Wherever you feel like!

Have you heard of your patients saying words like 'PnP' and 'slamming' and you respond by nodding yes without knowing what they are actually talking about?  Well, we can help you decode sexualized drug use and develop a clinical approach to it that aim for either harm minimization or detox.  Various qualitative studies have looked at the motivation for the use of drugs during sex.  Some of the astonishing reasons for use were - Increasing arousal and Increasing sexual confidence, etc.  However, the same studies have highlighted that some users (patients) often had a poor understanding of dosing, negotiating sex and a significant proportion of users had experienced a range of physical and mental health harms.  The gay community periodic survey has shown the use of GHB and crystals to be around 11% in the community.  This could represent 1 in 10 Men-who-have-sex-with men that you might be seeing in your day to day practice.    Small survey studies have shown that MSM would prefer to attend a sexual health clinic than standard drug services to address their concerns about drug use during sex.

This event will consist of a talk from a leading health professional in the field - Dr Shalini Arunogiri who is a Consultant Addiction Psychiatrist, Researcher and chairperson at Turning Point Addiction Treatment Centre.
